Reduce energy consumption by dimming backlight

Hi,

it might be a good idea if one could dim the backlight of the Phone like in MotionX GPS application. In the most cases you dont need full backlight and beside WIFI it seems to me that there is the second biggest power consumer.

We can't dim the back lighting, we can only make the graphics more dim, but this doesn't save battery because the back light is still on even when the screen is completely black.

I didn't know that there is no way to change the backlight. I took a look at other programms and they are all dimming by changing color that makes no sense for that purpose as you said.
