VLC not being activated

When i switch to/launch VLC (on windows 7) the app doesn't seem to respond in any way, and when I navigate to the media panel none of the buttons are filled out, even though it's on the list of preinstalled programs. Anything I can do to look into this? can I point it to the exe file somehow?

Seems to be working now. Not sure what the problem was before.

One kinda non-obvious thing learned: If there's two versions of an application defined you have to deselect the default one in the top list
